Roscoe
Roscoe is a 10-year old Pitbull mix diagnosed with Transitional Cell Carcinoma.
He was prescribed two treatments a month of Piroxicam and chemo. This cancer rarely goes into remission, but dogs can maintain a good quality of life for several months or or more on the drugs as long as they remain responsive to the treatments.
Roscoe’s owner started a local rescue group and fosters many of the dogs, so we were happy to be able to help someone who has given back to the animal community and dedicates a lot of time and effort on its behalf.
This same rescue found Roscoe and two of his liter mates as puppies. Roscoe’s owner personally fostered them and he “stole her heart.” As a little puppy he would crawl up the side of her recliner to get in her lap, he just endeared himself to her in a special way, so she made him a permanent member of the family.
Roscoe’s owner has been very aggressive and thorough in researching funding options. Unfortunately, most of the organizations she’s contacted are either regionally focused or are out of funds. But she did receive one grant from the Onyx and Breezy Foundation. With additional help from the Pie Fund, along with family assistance and upcoming tax refunds, his owner is doing all she can to continue Roscoe’s treatments.
We’re happy to report that after six weeks on Piroxicam and three chemo treatments, the mass in Roscoe’s bladder is down significantly. We hope to see his positive response to the drugs continue and are glad that the Pie Fund could help assist in funding Roscoe’s care.
