Amelia
Amelia is a 9-year old Siberian husky with mammary cancer.
She had surgery to successfully remove the tumor and has been undergoing five rounds of chemotherapy with carboplatin.
Amelia’s mother was adopted by her current owner after a breeder retired. Her owner had previously adopted several of the breeder’s older dogs, and she made a special request to take Amelia’s mother and continue the line. Amelia was one of two puppies from her owner’s first litter and has been a successful show dog and mother to three amazing working dogs.
Her owner calls Amelia “her best friend.” Together they’ve enjoyed sledding and hiking adventures, and lots of training resulting in her Canine Good Citizen certificate. They are inseparable, even accompanying her owner to work. Theirs is a very special relationship and we’re told “everyone loves her.”
Her owner applied to several funding sources, but most either are depleted or require a four-to-six month evaluation process, so we’re glad to be able to assist with Amelia’s treatments, and hope she continues to respond well to the chemo.
